Small Town in the Big City

Anthony and I have been excited to take advantage of the free concerts that take place every Thursday night in Southlands. Last week we made the attempt to go, but when we discovered the band that was performing was a John Phillip Sousa band, we opted out. Now, I love Stars and Stripes Forever, but we figured there were more pressing issues that could occupy our evening.

However, this past Thursday we were pumped up and ready to go! Plans were made to meet up with the Kisslers and the Maccarrones. We packed up the diaper bag with plenty of snacks for Isabella, made sure there were blankets and lawn chairs in the car, and off we went!

By the time we arrived, there were lots of festivities going on already! There were food and drink vendors set up, Best Buy was there with their Rock Band video game, families were finding the perfect spot, and kids were running amok! It was great!
As we started looking for our ideal concert location, we stumbled upon the Whitehills. Looking across the crowd, Anthony and I noticed two families that live on our cul-de-sac. Once the concert began, Frank and Diane showed up. And soon after that, Jackie and Johnny came as well!

The band was great, and a lot of fun to sing along with! Isabella danced with her daddy when Jump by Van Halen was played! The girls sang each and every word with the band when they played This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan. And everybody was excited as soon as we heard the beginning of Will Smith's Gettin' Jiggy Wit It!

All in all, it was a beautiful evening, and a ton of fun! I guess this is a little taste of small town living for big city folk!

It sounds like the band was great. I wish we could have gone. There's always next time!

We do this too! They do the same thing down in our city park, and we LOVE it! I must say we also opt out when the O'Fallon Community Band is playing - not really our thing. Iris dances up a storm while we chill out. It's such a great way to spend the evening, and hey - you can't beat free!

Looks like fun. I should have taken Diane up on the invite. Did you see her there?
