4th of July Parade - Pella Style!

On the Fourth, we were treated to a small town parade!
The whole town square was magically transformed into
an Independence Day extravaganza! The main street was
closed off for the parade and meal venues. There was a
dunk tank, pony rides, cotton candy, and snow cones!
Looking up and down the town square, Anthony and I
felt almost like we were in a movie. We were told to get
down there early, find a spot for the parade, set up our
chairs, and then get food. When we arrived we saw
empty lawn chairs lining the street! Who would have
thought that you could leave your chair to save your
spot???

The parade kicked off with a sleeping baby girl and
the American Flag, where everyone stood immediately,
and proudly! There were lots of floats, including the
Historical Society's which my dad rode on, dressed in
his Miller Hat that he wears during tours at the windmill.
The Beef Princess and Tulip Queen were waving their
hearts out, and the tractors were all on display. There
was even a Dutch Clown who was decked out with water
buckets over her shoulders and wooden shoes on her feet!

It was too hot to stay for the whole parade, so after about
an hour, we took off, but enjoyed our time at the parade!
Later that day we bar-b-qued hamburgers and then took
off for the fireworks! We sat on the church's lawn and waited ...
and waited ... and waited...

Once the fireworks started, they were great! A wonderful
day was had by all!
Anthony and I are glad that we
have a place that we can go for a taste of the small
town life, but are still thankful to live in the midst
of suberbia!
